KAZE are a “vibrant, future-facing” band from Manchester. Formed by Graham McCusker and Amy Webber in February 2016 – shortly after Graham, originally from Paisley, was diagnosed with Leukaemia.

During Graham’s 4 months of chemo, they started writing songs and they still haven’t stopped. Some of their main influences are Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, Steely Dan and Bjork. They released their debut EP, No Filter on 10 March 2017 with a sold out gig at The Castle, Manchester. They decided on the name KAZE, because it means ‘wind’ in Japanese – we’ll let you decide why…

Their EP was produced by Colin Towns (Ivor Novello songwriting judge/BAFTA nominated composer), engineered by Toby Wood (Lord Of The Rings/associate EMMY Award winner) and mixed by Adriano Buffone (Kubb/Avicii/Jessie Ware). The full line-up is; Amy on vocals, Graham on vocals/keys, Thomas Fripp on guitar, Dan Peate on bass and Jonathan Needham on drums. They met the band while studying at RNCM where Amy and Graham studied opera singing.

Pinned On You, their first single, has opened two of Tom Robinson’s shows on BBC 6 Music, was played by Vic Galloway on BBC Radio Scotland and was also ‘Single of the Week’ for the Janice Forsyth Show on BBC Radio Scotland. Both Pinned On You and Feel (also taken from the EP) have been played by Jim Gellatly (John Peel Award for Radio) on Amazing Radio. In March 2017, KAZE had an interviewed and airplay from BBC Radio Oxford and on 3 April, were selected as ‘Artist of the Week’ by the Richer Sounds platform Richer Unsigned – later featuring in their top ten unsigned tracks playlist. Their track, Come Away was played by Tom Robinson in June on both his BBC 6 Music Introducing Mixtape and his Saturday night show. In October 2017 KAZE did a live broadcast for the Janice Forsyth Show on BBC Radio Scotland which included playing live and an interview.
